Our exciting plans to provide around 35 hectares (85 acres) of natural green space, including 4.5ha of new woodland planting, and over 6km of walking and cycling routes at Governs Park, part of Langarth Garden Village, have been given the go ahead by Cornwall Council.

Part of the wider Governs land has been set aside as a key green space for future residents of the Garden Village, as well as existing residents in the surrounding areas, including Threemilestone, Kenwyn and Truro.
The area includes a Scheduled Monument – known locally as Governs Round – which to date has been inaccessible to the public. There are spectacular views over surrounding landscapes from the higher parts of the site, and more enclosed areas where there is woodland in the valleys and on the slopes.
The Reserved Matters Application (RMA) seeking detailed planning consent for Governs Park, which also provides Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG), was submitted to the Council as Planning Authority in July 2022 following public consultation. The plans have now received the green light – marking a key moment in the development of the Garden Village.
This Reserved Matters application is the first of many to be submitted for planning approval, showing the integral part Green Spaces play in the project and demonstrating our commitment to the environment and the biodiversity targets.
We are committed to ensuring that the delivery of the project relies on the principles and vision set out in the masterplan. We are now very much in ‘delivery’ mode with work already underway on the Fordh Langarth. Behind the scenes we are working up further RMAs for further parks and green spaces whilst detailed design is underway for delivery of the first primary school in 24/25.
We said at the beginning of the scheme that we would be bringing forward key infrastructure such as the new schools, community buildings and green open spaces at the start of the project, not leaving it until the end after all the housing has been built.
Following the granting of detailed planning permission for Governs Park, work on providing the park and green open spaces will begin next year and is currently expected to be completed in 2025.
