Protecting what we have
We recognise the importance of protecting the environment and wildlife.
Working within the landscape we will create a new village on nature’s terms: preserving more green space; protecting existing Cornish hedges, rivers and wetland areas to provide habitats for insects, songbirds and badgers; using sustainable drainage as a natural flood prevention system; planting over 5 hectares of new trees and woodland to support cleaner air and help capture carbon, and increasing biodiversity by up to 20% across the site.
These green spaces, wildlife areas, woodlands and natural water features will be for everyone – both those living at Langarth Garden Village and those from neighbouring areas.
Green space
Garden villages are by their nature, green. At Langarth at least 48% of the site will be made up of green spaces, with tree lined streets sitting alongside attractive woodlands and hillside areas.
By creating new green corridors, enhancing existing ones, creating wetlands, ponds and new areas of tree planting and developing allotments, community gardens and community orchards to support food production and bring communities together, Langarth will provide an attractive and healthy environment for people to live in, grow and develop, surrounded by nature.
Natural habitats
Minimising the impact on the natural environment and providing a home to wildlife and nature is as important as providing homes for human residents. We will be increasing biodiversity by up to 20% across the whole site.
We are working within the landscape to preserve more green space, protect existing Cornish hedges, rivers and wetland areas to provide habitats for insects, songbirds and badgers and use sustainable drainage. Green spaces will be connected and varied to help establish and enhance wildlife habitats. Wildlife (and people) can move from one green space to another – essential for encouraging biodiversity.
