We recognize the concerns over increased traffic congestion on the A390. New residents at Langarth will be encouraged to choose alternatives to the car when travelling. The masterplan prioritises people over cars, providing safe and convenient walking and cycling routes and improved public transport services for people to travel for work, school or leisure, alongside the provision for future technology, including the use of electric vehicles.
Our transport strategy will improve management of the roads in and around Langarth, and reduce journey times, reliability and resilience of the wider highway network. There will be better cycle, bus and walking connections and alternatives to car use for accessing the city centre and other services.
What we are doing:
- Fordh Langarth (previously known as the Northern Access Road) will connect all the developments on the Langarth site and provide a route through the Garden Village to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske avoiding the A390.
- A new junction at A390 Penstraze and a revised A390 junction at Richard Lander School will provide principal accesses to Langarth and links to the hospital and the Treliske retail park, allowing more direct access without having to use the Threemilestone to Gloweth sections of the A390. This will remove up to 30% of existing traffic from the A390, and reduce conflict and safety concerns associated with rat running on quiet lanes.
- Fordh Langarth will be pedestrian and cycle friendly, with 3 km of new high quality walking and cycling routes within the site, with segregated cycle and pedestrian provision and priority given to cyclists at junctions, and a 20mph speed limit.
- Interconnected green corridors will link to existing settlements and with existing and planned retail developments in the rest of Truro; with additional traffic-free / low traffic walking and cycling routes to Truro railway station and into Truro city centre
- Secure cycle parking within curtilage of properties and at community locations
- E-bike hire system with docking points in LGV, Threemilestone and Truro city centre and e-car clubs
- Active travel hubs will be provided in each of the village centres at Langarth, as well as a hub in Threemilestone.
